A Transitional gilt-bronze mounted, tulipwood, amaranth and marquetry secrétaire à abattant, circa 1775, in the manner of A.L. Gilbert


the brèche d'Alep marble top above a frieze drawer inlaid with green-stained foliate scrolls, on a drop front opening to reveal a fitted interior comprising pigeon holes, six drawers and a tooled black leather writing surface, the lower section with two cupboard doors opening to a safe and two drawers, extensively inlaid with landscapes and classical ruins, trophies and stylized foliage

134cm. high, 91cm. wide, 43cm. deep; 4ft. 4¾in., 2ft. 11¾in., 1ft. 5 in.
