rectangular with rounded corners, the lid set with a cut-cornered rectangular enamel plaque painted with a mythological scene, within chased acanthus border, the spandrels enamelled in blue and set with a flowerhead, the sides decorated with a zig-zag and lozenge pattern in red, blue and black enamel, within opaque white enamel bands, the corners with taille d'épargne floral ornaments within acanthus, the base decorated in a complicated pattern of translucent blue enamel bands framing red lozenges over leafy engine-turning, maker's mark, PC3 unofficial 18ct standard mark, later French eagle's head control mark
