A gold and enamel snuff box, probably Geneva, circa 1805
rectangular with rounded corners, the lid centred with an enamel plaque painted with two shepherdesses and a fisherman by a river flowing through a village before a mountainscape against pale pink opalescent enamel sky over sun burst engine-turning, in a fine opaque black enamel frame and a geometrical border of opaque corn flower blue enamel around white enamel fern pattern, the side panels engine-turned with a zig-zag pattern within opaque black enamel rims, cornflower blue taille d'épargne enamel corners, the base similarly decorated around a chequered engine-turned pattern formed of small ropetwist borders, maker’s mark JFF crowned incuse, Hanau cog wheel mark within three flowers, the right rim numbered: 176
