A Roman Marble Bust of Sarapis

circa 2nd Century A.D.


the god wearing a chiton and himation falling from his left shoulder, with full beard, moustache, and long wavy hair falling in five spiral curls over the forehead, a mortise on top of the head for insertion of the modius.

Height 17.1 cm.

private collection, acquired in Lyon in the 1960s-1980s
