This beautiful bust, fragmented from a larger figure, is likely to represent the Angel Gabriel as part of an Annunciation group. Its pose is similar to that of the Angel Annunciate in a pair of alabaster reliefs in the Schnütgen Museum, Cologne (inv. no. K 609a,b), catalogued as Burgundian Netherlands or France, circa 1410-1420. Compare also the Angel from an alabaster Annunciation group by Tilman Riemenschneider, dated circa 1485, in the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam (inv. no. BK-16986-A).

BK-16986-A).
