Description

Comprising: a pendant designed as a Greek cross applied with blue guilloché enamel, centering a cushion-shaped ruby within a rose diamond border, the reverse reads ‘Sei getreu bis an den Tod so will ich dir die Krone des Lebens geben’, one small diamond deficient, fitted case; a demi-parure consisting of a circular brooch set with polished lapis lazuli and half-pearls and a pair of earrings of similar design, fitted case; and a pendant designed as a Latin cross set with polished lapis lazuli and half seed-pearls.

Ruby, enamel and diamond pendant:

Princess Marie of Prussia, Queen of Bavaria (1825-1889).

Lapis lazuli and half-pearl parure:

King Ludwig II of Bavaria (1845-1886)

The ruby, enamel and diamond pendant was an engagement present to Queen Marie of Bavaria on 30 July 1842, likely given by her husband the later King Maximilian II Joseph of Bavaria (1811-1864). This lapis lazuli and half-pearl demi-parure was presented as a gift by her son King Ludwig II of Bavaria (1845-1886) on 8 September 1879.
