rectangular with cut corners, the lid centered with an enamel roundel of en grisaille putto by an altar decorated with gold paillons, in a frame inset with simulated pearls alternating with paillon leaves, flanked by two putti seated on gold scrolls, within elaborate colorful paillon foliage and an opaque white enamel frame within a stamped gold border, on a dark blue enamel ground, the sides and base similarly decorated,

apparently later struck with French prestige marks including Paris date letter for 1785
