The sitter was the son of King Frederick William II of Prussia and Frederika Louisa of Hesse-Darmstadt. He is wearing the breast-star of the Royal Prussian Order of the Black Eagle associated with the Royal Swedish Order of the Sword, the cross of the Imperial Austrian Order of Maria Theresa and the Royal Prussian Military Medal of 1813/1814, the badges of the Royal Prussian Order of the Iron Cross and of the Imperial Russian Military Order of St George.
