F rom an early age, His Highness Sheikh Hamad Bin Abdullah Al Thani had a passion for 18th- and 19th-century art. Moving with ease and refinement from one culture or era to another, His Highness has assembled a collection for his palace in Doha that is both grand and comfortable.
His considerable knowledge, enriched by his own dedicated research, has resulted in a collection where conversations emerge between works across a multitude of categories and time periods. For example, the greatest French cabinetmakers, such as Oeben, RVLC, Dautriche, Saunier and Foliot, are juxtaposed with Qajar helmets, terracotta pieces inspired by Antiquity, Oriental lacquers and Russian enamels, European porcelains and British 19th-century silverware. It is a collection that epitomises opulence and refinement.
