Fruit Still Life is a masterful example of Severin Roesen's approach to the still life genre. Resting on an ornate marble tabletop, this assemblage of wine, fruit, leaves, and more showcases the artist's strength at layering nature's bounty in dramatic still life paintings. Roesen was heavily inspired by the Dutch seventeenth and early eighteenth-century still life genre, but made a name for himself in the American tradition through his recognizable approach to still life painting. The present work has resided in a distinguished private collection for nearly three decades.
