Height. 10 in, width. 10 3/8 in

A pair of firedogs with similar lions but on different bases from the Jacques Garcia collection in Champ de Bataille was sold by Sotheby's on 16 May 2023, lot 24, and linked to the work of sculptor and chiseller Jean-Louis Prieur and bronzemaker Philippe Caffiéri. Their collaboration with the architect Victor Louis on the renovation of the Royal Palace in Warsaw at the end of the 1780s gave rise to a number of projects and creations that it is tempting to link to this pair of firedogs.
