Born in York, Pennsylvania, Fritz Pfeiffer attended the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and studied for a time with Robert Henri at the New York School of Art in 1910. While living in York, Pfeiffer worked as a glass panel designer for a stained glass window company – an experience that finds itself viscerally reflected in the colorful and geometric composition of Danse cubiste.
Known for his modernist landscapes and figures, as well as his brightly colored abstract works, Pfeiffer’s style has been compared to artists like Wassily Kandinsky by critics and writers alike. As his work was very popular during his lifetime, Pfieffer showcased his bright watercolors and paintings all along the Eastern Seaboard, and with shows in Baltimore, Provincetown, Philadelphia, Buffalo, and elsewhere. A kaleidoscope of color, Danse cubiste stands as one of the most calcified visual representations of Pfeiffer’s oeuvre.
