Saint Jerome is depicted here in a manner that is very typical of the late middle ages. The Saint shown wearing his cardinal's hat and holding an open bible in his hand, signifying both his role as a founding theologian of the Christian church and his translation of the Bible into Latin, the latter of which he was perhaps best known for.
