Please note that the provenance has been amended to state the present lot was probably gifted by Joachim Murat to the Emperor Napoleon in Paris on 30 November 1809. This theory has been presented by Professor Olivier Ihl and Dr Jean Hugo Ihl in an expertise based on documentary material found in the French National Archives; this expertise is available upon request.

Joachim Murat, King of Naples (1808-1815), acquired directly from the engraver in Rome, 18 November 1809;

by whom probably gifted to Napoleon, Emperor of the French (1769-1821), in Paris on 30 November 1809;
