canvas: 8 ¾ by 6 ⅞ in.; 22.2 by 17.5 cm.

framed: 12 ¾ by 10 ⅝ in.; 32.4 by 27.0 cm.

Probably acquired by Forsyth Wickes (1876-1964), New York, Tuxedo Park, and Newport, in the first half of the twentieth century;

Thence by descent to the present collector.

This unpublished oil sketch, one of the artist's "petits portraits" will be included in the forthcoming supplement to the catalogue raisonné of Louis Léopold Boilly's works by Étienne Bréton and Pascal Zuber.
