The origin of the Pasha watch's design dates back to the early 1930s when Thami El Glaoui, known as the Pasha of Marrakesh, commissioned a unique timepiece from Louis Cartier. Seeking a blend of regal elegance and robustness to match his active lifestyle, the Pasha desired a watch with exceptional water-resistance, a rare feature for its time. The resulting solution featured a comparatively large diameter, along with a crown cover and metal grid safeguarding the dial. However, historical records suggest a different narrative: the debut of the Pasha De Cartier collection in 1985, conceived in response to the quartz crisis and to address design gaps in Cartier's luxury and sports lines. Inspired by the success of innovative designs like the Patek Philippe Nautilus and the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak, Cartier enlisted the expertise of renowned watch designer Gerald Genta.

Distinguished by its round form in contrast to Cartier's typical oval and rectangular watches, the Pasha boasted a masculine aesthetic with its generous 38mm case, broad bezel, Vendôme lugs, and screw-down crown cap adorned with a cabochon and retaining chain. These defining features have persisted across various iterations of the Pasha, preserving its distinctive silhouette. In the early 2000s, Cartier continued to explore masculine designs, evident in their catalog. The sporty essence of the Pasha offered a rich canvas for experimentation, leading to the 2006 debut of the Pasha Seatimer. This iteration embraced dive watch attributes, such as a water-resistant crown cap and rotating bezel, pushing the concept further.

Two years later, Cartier intensified its commitment to sporty elegance with a chronograph version, exemplified by the present example. Encased in a 42 mm yellow gold case accented with a ceramic Clous de Paris bezel, the watch exudes a blend of athleticism and refinement. The alternating yellow gold and rubber bracelet enhances its dynamic appeal. We are pleased to offer this timepiece, directly owned and consigned by Sylvester Stallone, bearing his name proudly engraved on the case back.
