Stallone is widely credited by many to be the reason that Panerai enjoys the popularity it has today. The journey began in 1995 when Monty Shadow, a prominent figure in both entertainment and fashion circles, proposed a marketing strategy aimed at leveraging celebrity endorsements to boost Panerai's visibility. His close connection with Stallone made him the ideal candidate for this plan. Although initially hesitant about the idea of celebrity endorsements, Panerai, facing financial difficulties, saw this as a potential lifeline.
Stallone, already a fan of Panerai, enthusiastically embraced the partnership while shooting 'Daylight.' The collaboration resulted in the creation of two new watch models, distinguished by the moniker 'Sly Tech' on the dial—an amalgamation of Stallone's nickname, 'Sly,' and 'Tech' as an abbreviation for modern Technology—along with Stallone's signature on the case back.Prior to finalizing the agreement, Panerai also gifted Stallone several Reference 5218-201/As, one of which made its cinematic debut in ‘Daylight.’ The exposure on the silver screen catapulted Panerai into the limelight, marking the beginning of its ascent.
Since then, Stallone has continued his collaboration with Panerai, resulting in the creation of several limited edition SLYTECH models. However, the reference PAM00269 stands apart as a unique piece made exclusively for him. Crafted in 2006, this Luminor Submersible Chronograph boasts a substantial 47 mm yellow gold case and black dial. Interestingly, its design bears resemblance to the PAM00202 Luminor Submersible Chronograph Slytech, released the previous year but encased in titanium, which is also on offer from the Stallone Collection in this sale. Setting it apart, the case back of the PAM00269 features distinct engravings, including 'Special Edition for Sly' and 'Esemplare Unico,' emphasizing its unique nature.
