A Roman Bronze Protome
circa 2nd Century A.D.
in the form of the head of a bearded god turned slightly to his right, and wearing a chiton and himation, with vigorously modeled beard, full outlined lips, straight nose with flaring nostrils, large pierced eyes, and furrowed brow, his long wavy hair falling onto the shoulders.
Height 9.2 cm.
Jan Mitchell (1913-2009), New York, probably acquired in the 1960s or earlier
by descent to the present owner
