A Roman Bronze Figure of Aphrodite
circa 2nd Century A.D.
standing with her weight on her left leg, gazing into an open box mirror held in her right hand, and wearing a cloak falling from her hips to her feet and bound in a knot beneath the abdomen, her face with full slightly-parted lips, and large wide-set eyes with indented pupils, the elaborate coiffure bound in a top-knot, long wavy tresses escaping onto her shoulders.
Height 20 cm.
Jan Mitchell (1913-2009), New York, probably acquired in the 1960s or earlier
by descent to the present owner
