Buste d'enfant (Bust of a Child)
signed: Dalou and inscribed: A.A Hébrard, cire perdue
bronze, rich dark brown patina, on a beige marble base
bust: 30cm., 11 3/4 in.
base: 11.5cm., 4 1/2 in.
The model for the present posthumous cast is related to the funerary Monument to the Memory of the Queen Victoria's Children (1877-1879) for the private chapel at Windsor Castle, a commission that Dalou received in 1877. The bust is a study for one of the children that are carried by an angel in the monument. The original marble version of the bust is in the Petit Palais, Paris (inv. no. PPS288).
