Brothers Birdman and Slim Williams started Cash Money Records in New Orleans, Louisiana, before southern rap had really gained a stronghold foothold in Hip Hop culture.

Focusing primarily on southern rap, the Cash Money roster boasts some of the most successful artists in Hip Hop history, including Lil Wayne, Drake, Nicki Minaj, Juvenile, B.G., Mannie Fresh, Young Thug, and more. With a combined 12 number one albums and 7 number one singles, the label has soared since Birdman co-founded the outfit in 1991: "I was hoping it would get us out of the projects and into a positive way of life. And we wanted to help other people get out of this poverty."

The plaque offered here was a gift to Kate Ferguson, Editor-in-Chief of Word Up! and Rap Masters magazines, both entertainment publications geared towards Black American teenagers.

Provenance: From the personal collection of Kate Ferguson
