Description

[Witches]

An authentick and complete history of witches and apparitions. Shewing the reality of their existence in upwards of twenty-five curious and uncommon relations. London: for H. Woodgate and S. Brooks, 1759

12mo (140 x 78mm.), modern green buckram, title-page reattached with tape obscuring some text, cut close with some text shaved

A rare chapbook containing episodes of witchcraft, hauntings and apparitions, almost completely extracted from Glanvill's Saducismus. The title also mentions the witch trials that took place in Sweden in 1669-1670. The publishers, Henry Woodgate and Samuel Brooks, produced numerous books adapted for the popular (and less well educated) market.
