2 works in one volume, 8vo (175 x 108mm.), separate titles each with woodcut portrait, woodcut illustrations throughout, contemporary calf with gilt arabesque centrepiece, spotting, occasional marginal worming, slightly worn, lacking two pairs of ties


FIRST EDITIONS. Claude Flamand was an engineer who worked for Friedrich, Duke of Württemberg, who had wanted to build a new citadel with fortifications at Montbéliard. His treatise on fortifications also covered siege warfare and he particularly emphasised the need to map out the target fortress.

Foillet was the first printer in Montbéliard and he was also a papermaker.
