Description

The Vintage NASA Photo Collection of Philip Kulpa

[APOLLO 10]

EARTHRISE, AS PHOTOGRAPHED FROM THE APOLLO 10 LM. 18-26 MAY 1969.

Vintage NASA “Red Number” chromogenic color photograph, 10 by 8 inches, “A Kodak Paper” watermark to verso. NASA image ID “NASA AS10-27-3895” printed in upper left margin in red; red numbers just shaved at top (but presumably as originally issued), two small pieces of old tape to verso.

A striking view of Earth rising above the lunar horizon, photographed from the Apollo 10 LM. Apollo 10 was the fourth crewed mission of the Apollo program, and a "dress rehearsal," so to speak, for the first Moon landing. The aim of the mission was to test all the required components and procedures, just short of actually landing on the lunar surface.
