Condition

Executed on cream wove paper and laid down. The sheet is timestained and slightly undulating. There is a flattened horizontal fold and a flattened vertical fold running across the composition. There is a small tear towards the upper part of the left edge and another very minor tear towards the centre of the right edge. There are some tiny flattened creases in places. This work is in overall good condition.

Catalogue Note

This work represents a study for the costume design of Goliath in the ballet David Triomphant (scenario by Lifar, music and choregraphy by Debussy and Mussorgsky, with costumes and decor by Léger). The ballet was first presented at the Théâtre de la Maison Internationale des Etudiants, Paris, on December 15, 1936.
