The influence of architecture on Italian design was profound and far-reaching. In the aftermath of World War II, Italian architects vigorously engaged with design to meet the modernisation of the country supported by a vibrant growing Italian industry. Indeed Gio Ponti, Ico Parisi, Joe Colombo, Angelo Mangiarotti, just to name a few, played a pivotal role in shaping last century’s Italian design innovation. They believed that architecture and design were interconnected disciplines, and their work exemplified this synergy, imprinting furniture and lights with their architectural principles.

Influence of Architecture on Italian design

Ettore Sottsass' 20 Argenti Grandi series was a remarkable exploration of silverware design. Sottsass broke away from traditional silversmithing norms by the use of vibrant colours, unconventional shapes, and asymmetry redefined the concept of silver objects, infusing them with a new sense of modernity and artistic expression. The 20 Argenti Grandi series stands as a testament to Sottsass' ability to transform functional objects into captivating works of art. Each produced in a limited edition and named after ancient kings of the Mesopotamia region.
