This relief is an adaptation of the model of Susanna and the Elders carved by Bossuit circa 1680-1690 (J. Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles, inv. no. 2011.12). This subject has been engraved by Barend Graat and published by Matthijs Pool in 1727, in an album of engravings after Bossuit's works.
