comprising:a German iron-mounted polychromed wood casket, 15th century, with a printed label to the interior inscribed: A427 and with two labels to the underside inscribed in ink: 15.Jh. / 5500,-;a French or Spanish iron-mounted embossed leather domed casket, late 15th/ early 16th century, with a label to the interior inscribed in ink: Cuire-bouilli coffer / French / 15th / 16th century, with a printed label to the interior inscribed: A426 and with another label to the underside inscribed: Lent by / Dr. Jeaffresen.;a Southern German polychromed iron strongbox with a courtly scene, late 16th/ early 17th century

Overall the condition of all caskets is good, with minor dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. Iron-mounted polychromed wood casket: there is wear to the polychromy throughout. There is some corrosion to the metal. There are losses to the metal around the lid, and the metal is torn in areas, including to one of the bosses on the top of the lid. The lid is canvas-lined to the interior. There is a slightly open but stable joint to the wood, running horizontally across the front of the casket at the bottom. Embossed leather domed casket: the lid of the casket has slighlty warped, and the casket no longer closes properly. The leather is slightly dry, and there are some tears to the leather, incluidng to the lid on the right side and to the left side at the back. There are further minor losses to the leather. There is minor corrosion ot the metal lock and the mounts. Iron strongbox: There is slight warping to the iron at the front. The locking mechanism is in working order. There are minor losses to the polychromy and some slight corrosion to the metal, in particular to the bottom edge of the casket.
