-The drawing is laid down on a sheet, on which Victor Hugo has noted the inscription -Some stains ; some fine cracking where the ink is thickest - Very small losses and lifted areas on the right (not very visible) and on the lower left - Good overall state

Auguste Vacquerie, writer, journalist and photographer, was a close friend of the Hugo family. During the exile years, he visited Hugo frequently and made photographs of him and his family.  We would like to thank Monsieur Pierre Georgel for kindly confirming the authenticity of this work. It will be included in the forthcoming catalogue raisonné.
