the Buddha seated in dhayanasana with left hand in dhyana mudra and right hand in bhumisparshamudra with elongated earlobes, the naturalistic folds hanging off the left shoulder of the brocaded red and green sanghati decorated with a filigree pattern in gold, seated on an ornamental lotus throne with a golden edged halo and carved with mythical creatures articulated by a torana decorated with golden flames, the apex topped by a garuda, disciples Shariputra and Maudgalyayana flanking either side whose decorative robes mimic those of the Buddha Himalayan Art Resources item no. 13602.

Condition
Overall accretion, abrasion and wear to the surface throughout. Raised gold border around the halo and throne back still intact. A repair to the right border of the painting, not original and adhered to fill the area of original loss, as visible in illustration. Painting trimmed visible on upper border. Areas of inscription still visible on verso with some areas of loss. In-painting enhancing areas in the green ground of the throne back, borders of the robe and textile hanging from the dais. Areas of in-painting also visible in the arms, ankles and areas of the chest of the central figure.
