The canvas is not lined. UV examination reveals some retouching to the dog's face, the child's left hand, the child's chair and an area just above the woman's hair. There are a few further minor spots of retouching in places. There is a horizontal stretcher bar mark, and scattered paint shrinkage, visible in the catalogue illustration. There are a few fine lines of craquelure in places. This work is in overall fairly good condition.
