The square dial with a guilloché centre, applied in black enamel with Arabic numeral indicators and blued steel hands, to a rectangular case and fixed carrying handle with relief decoration of Chinese inspiration, the reverse inscribed 'to my darling, 23 Feb 42 and always', on bracket feet of polished onyx, measuring approximately 53 x 19 x 46mm, dial signed Cartier, case numbered, French assay mark and maker's mark, one onyx foot damaged, together with a winding key, numbered, fitted case stamped Cartier.

Movement wound and time adjusted via key, in good working order. Winding and adjusting apertures opened via slide at back of case. Dial signed Cartier. Glass loose. Case and base numbered 28941, stamped Made in France, with French assay mark for 18 carat gold, French maker's mark VR with roman numeral XII, base additionally numbered 5460. One onyx foot broken, with significant loss to reverse, loose, the other with chips to extremeties. Reverse inscribed 'to my darling, 23 Feb 42 and always' in cursive script. Gross weight of clock approximately 114.7 grams. Original case stamped Cartier London Paris New York, significant wear to case. Key numbered 28928.
