Condition
This dresser has a lovely quality to it. There are marks and scratches consistent with age and use. The lower section has a back of oak. There is a surface scratch evident to the lower left door (visible to in the catalogue photo). The top of the lower section is very slightly faded. Ink stains to surface of top shelf. One of the lower doors is locked and there is no key. Metal hooks appear original.

Like the previous lot, Arts and Crafts ideals of 'truth to materials' were the fundamental principles of Gimson’s work and are evidenced in the present lot. Described by Sir Nikolaus Pevsner as ‘the greatest of the English artist-craftsman’, Gimson’s high calibre output and fastidious attention to detail provided an inspiration both for contemporaries and successive generations of craftsmen and designers. Original designs for furniture and most probably this dresser, which was made in the Daneway Workshops at Saperton, Gloucestershire, are in the Cheltenham Art Gallery and Museum.
