Condition

This work is in very good condition overall. The left edge of the sheet is deckled. The colors are bright and fresh. Under very close inspection, there is very minor evidence of wear and handling to the edges, including three pinpoint brown spot accretions on the margin of the sheet ¾ of an inch above the lower left corner and one pinpoint brown spot accretion at the lower left corner. The sheet is hinged verso to the mat at all four corners. Framed under Plexiglas. Please note this work is displayed in the exhibition with a different frame than it will be sold with.
In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Prospective buyers should inspect each lot to satisfy themselves as to condition and must understand that any statement made by Sotheby's is merely a subjective qualified opinion.
NOTWITHSTANDING THIS REPORT OR ANY DISCUSSIONS CONCERNING CONDITION OF A LOT, ALL LOTS ARE OFFERED AND SOLD "AS IS" IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CONDITIONS OF SALE PRINTED IN THE CATALOGUE.

"Pettibon's surfer drawings capture an existentialist moment where the surfer rides a fine line of beauty for a short time until nature inevitably engulfs and destroys him—a metaphor for life itself."
