Charles Spindler was an alsatian artist. He painted many views of Alsace and local costumes. The inscription in german on the picture La Tisseuse refers to Mélanie de Pourtalès who was born in Strasbourg (see lot 59) . The other gouache shows Hubert and Marguerite de Pourtalès's sons, Max (born in 1893) and Louis (born in 1905).
