Ottoman Turkish manuscript on paper, 7 lines to the page, written in diwani script in black ink, surmounted by a large tughra in gold, along with a translation in French of the document by Joseph-Marie Jouannin
Condition
The document had been folded for a long time and thus bears traces of folds and associated tears and minor holes, strains and smudges. The four documents in French are overall in good condition, with minor spots and smudges, as viewed.

In this document Émile Desage is given an award of a bejewelled medal (mücevher nişan). He is described as a Desaş, the chief secretary of political interest in the ministry of foreign affairs and formerly chief secretary in the French consulate in Istanbul. The document is dated the end of Safar 1254 AH/ May 1838 AD. The Ottoman document is accompanied by French translation dated to the same year, 1838, by Joseph-Marie Jouannin (1785-1844).
