The following condition report has been provided by Simon Parkes, Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc. 502 East 74th St. New York, NY 212-734-3920, simonparkes@msn.com, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's. This work is lined with a non-wax adhesive. The texture of the paint is undamaged by the lining. The paint layer is in excellent condition. It is clean and retouched. There are no retouches in the landscape at all. In the sky, retouches fluoresce green under ultraviolet light. There are spots above the tree on the far left, which seem to address a pentiment. There are also isolated dots of retouching in the blue surrounding the clouds in the center and right of the sky, which probably address spots where the artist's undercolor shows through. Most, if not all, of these retouches seem to be cosmetic and are not strictly necessary. However, the work is in lovely condition overall.
