RARE. “This is the first edition of Apian’s work describing his astronomical quadrant. In an attempt to reach a broader public, Apian revised and extended this material and published it in German the next year under the title Instrument Buch [see lot 15]… The work describes a solar quadrant of the author’s invention that was intended to measure the time of day” (Tomash & Williams).
