Condition

In overall good condition with minor surface dirt and wear to the patina and some oxidization, consistent with age and handling. The tail is cast separately and attached to the horse. There appears a large patch to the back of the horse probably an old repair after casting. A few casting flaws are visible at some places to the bronze. Some dents are visible over the surface. Solders are visible to the rear and front legs of the horse. Both rear legs are slightly misshaped. Some greening is visible notably on the crevices. The wooden base with two filled holes where the bronze was probably attached. There are various scratches and wear to the paint, notably on the edges of the base.

The composition is derived from a model by the Master of the Bull Hunt in the Suermondt-Ludwig Museum, Aachen. The chiselling imitating hair all over the horse is typical of Neapolitan bronze foundries.
