Condition

The painting seems to be in an excellent condition. Under the naked eye: The copper plate is nice and flat and no major damages seem to be apparent. Some very minor paintlosses can be seen in the corners of the copper. A small retouching is visible in the sky area along the top edge. Covered with a very fine craquelure pattern, and all the paint and original impastos seem to be nicely preserved. Under UV light: The (old?) varnish layer fluoresces completely, with no major retouchings apparent. Offered with a walnut-type wooden frame with gold and white fillet and white decorations (in good condition).

This painting is inspired by the work of artists such as Adrien van Stalbemt (1580-1662) and Denis van Alsloot (1570-1626). The composition is a capriccio based on the Forest of Soignes, near Brussels, a popular subject for painters.
