shaped oval, on engraved panel supports interrupted by stamped foliate skirts, swing hand, cover applied with bead edged disc engraved with initials MJC, 1819-1838 French small guarantee for imported wares only, in fitted silk covered and lined wood box with silk cushion; also a Chinese silver leaf-shaped stand with twig handle; a Chinese crab form small box, unmarked, 19/20th century; an Austrian two handled basket, circa 1820, applied with classical male portrait medallions, 1810-1824 Austrian, tax exempt mark only; a Continental three-compartment inkstand and cover, incorporating two mounted glass inkwells with stoppers, unmarked, most probably 19th century; and a filigree mounted hardstone chamber candlestick and dressing table dish, unmarked, probably 20th century

The case to the basket is in very poor condition. All pieces apparently unmarked but for the two-handles basket with inset medallions. Condition generally very good with minor losses. The miniature inksatnd does not sit evenly on a flat surface. Good condition overall.

A similar box but with applied enamel ornament, used for gloves, was part of the collection of Catherine the Great. Fine Chinese filigree from the 1780-1825 and 1825-40 period appears with the marks of Bao Ying and Cutshing amongst others (see: Adrien von Ferscht, Chinese Export Silver 1785-1940, University of Glasgow, 2015)
