oil on walnut panel
Condition
The panel is comprised of a single piece of walnut hand sawn, with two horizontal cross members on the reverse. The panel appears to have been cut on the edges, as with the upper left corner, though this is not visible when framed. Underneath an old varnish, and elegant image reads well. There is a small spot of loss on the sitter's dark robe, at center, meanwhile some loss that has been strengthen is also on her gown and on the background. Three thin horizontal lines are barely visible: one on the cloth of the child at center, the other on the arm of the Madonna, and the last on her neck. Inspection under UV is difficult to read due to a thick, uneven varnish, though there might be some spots of retouches here and there. The panel might favor from a light clean and re-varnish, and is offered in an elegantly carved giltwood frame.
