Condition
Laid down on thin japan paper. Lower left corner made up. Part of the lower margin, in the centre, is torn and made up. A few nicks and tears around the edges of the sheet and staining around the edges. Ink stains at the right margin. Surface dirt. Red chalk and wash still remains strong despite the condition issues.

Though it is executed with confidence in a distinctive personal style, no convincing attribution has so far been suggested for this intriguing drawing. The closest stylistic parallels would seem to be with artists originating from Siena, active circa 1600, such as Alessandro Casolani (1552-1606).
