Condition

Both paintings have been relined and are stable. They have retained their color nicely and can be hung as is. Under ultra violet light there are scattered, minor retouchings visible in both, though with the naked eye none are clearly visible. The notable areas are in the background of the portrait of a woman in the painting with the fruit, and in the tree that is featured in the garden scene painting in the work with the cat. Both works are in giltwood frames and can be hung as is.

Unrecorded in period documents, Francesco Bossi was first isolated as an artistic personality by G. de Logu.1  Bossi was a native of Este and appears to have been inspired by the detailed trompe l'oeil still lifes of Sebastiano Lazzari.   1.
