Condition
The canvas is original. There is a slight push in the canvas towards the left edge, below the centre, with some associated lifting and craquelure. There is some unevenness to the canvas throughout. There is some craquelure throughout the painting, with some associated lifting to the paint in places including in the lower right quadrant. There are also two horizontal stretcher bar marks with associated craquelure, and a fleck of paint loss to the right of centre. There is a slight scuff mark towards the lower edge, in the centre, and at the left edge in the upper half of the work. There appears to be some retouched frame abrasion to all four edges. There is light surface dirt throughout. Inspection under ultra violet light reveals evidence of fluorescence and probable retouching to the four edges and an uneven and discoloured varnish but no further obvious signs of restoration or fluorescence. The work is float mounted in a painted wooden frame. Please telephone the department on +44 (0) 207 293 6424 if you have any questions regarding the present work.
