Sugata [configuration]: Shinogi-zukuri, chu-kissaki, iori-mune Kitae [forging pattern]: Ko-mokume hada Hamon [tempering pattern]: A very wide gunome-choji hamon, crossing the shinogi in places with yakidashi at the base Boshi [tip]: O-maru with kaeri Nakago [tang]: Ubu with 3 mekugi-ana (2 overlapping) with ha-agari kuri-jiri, signed Awataguchi Omi (no) Kami Tadatsuna on omote Nagasa [length from kissaki to machi]: 63.3 cm, 25 in.Saki-haba [width at the yokote]: 1.9 cm, 3/4 in.Moto-haba [width at the machi]: 3 cm, 1 2/11 in. In naval kyu-gunto koshirae with silver tomoe mon on the tsuka. Accompanied by a certificate of registration as Tokubetsu Hozon Token [Sword Worthy of Preserving] issued by the Nihon Bijitsu Token Hozon Kyokai [Society for the Preservation of the Japanese Art Sword].
Condition
This sword has an unusual and rare customised Meiji period koshirae. The early military koshirae is sound but in a used condition. The blade has an attractive shinto blade by awataguchi Omi (no) Kami Tadastuna. The blade is in a reasonably good polish with some light rubbing, particularly in the shinogi-ji.
