The panel is stable. Examination under UV light reveals a small u-shaped area of retouching measuring approx 4cm towards the lower right corner. There are three further spots of retouching to the upper edge and a vertical nick running from the centre of the left edge to the upper left corner measuring approx 11cm. neither of which are visible when framed. There is light frame abrasion to each edge, also not visible when framed. There is minor paint shrinkage most notably to the pink dresses. This work is in overall good condition.

拍品資料及來源

‘Indeed, from the first painting to the last, with only occasional digressions, [Max Liebermann] represented and “described” everyday life – whether the workaday chores of the Dutch goat herder, the daily tasks of the young orphaned women learning to sew, or the pleasant leisurely pursuits of summer tourists on the beach, strolling and taking in the sun.’
(Marion F. Desmukh in Max Liebermann, Modern Art and Modern Germany, Farnham, 2015, n.p.)

The authenticity of this work has been confirmed by Prof. Dr Matthias Eberle.
