The cover has minor restorations to the red lacquer at the three corners and four areas of the side rims, further small restorations to the bottom edge of the cover, refreshing to the rims of cover and box and refreshing to the black lacquer interiors and red lacquer base of the box.

乾隆帝嗜古好奇，藝匠為迎合其心意, 更精進技藝, 嘗試各式材質模仿其他物料，故多種像生瓷及漆器應運而生，以瓷質仿金、石木材，或以漆器模仿書冊，本品即屬後者，以精雕檀香模仿書冊側面，團花紋飾則取織繡品之意。 剔紅冊頁式蓋盒有數例可參考，本品盒面刻「大清乾隆御製」款，顯示本品為清高宗專用，極為獨特。比較數例，無乾隆年款，其一型如兩冊層疊，清宮舊藏現存於北京，載於《故宮博物院藏文物珍品全集·清代漆器》，香港，2006年，圖版52；其二藏於天津博物館，飾壽字紋及螭龍團紋，載於《中國漆器全集》，卷6，福州，圖版221；其三盒面刻花果團花紋飾，售於香港蘇富比2005年10月23日，編號390，後易手於倫敦蘇富比2015年5月14日，編號48。

抽象紋飾之皮球團花，可溯自日本，本乃圓形家族徽章，稱作「紋」。雍正及乾隆帝喜愛日本藝術，御令製作帶此紋飾之工藝品，應用於各式材質。台北國立故宮博物院收藏一轉旋瓶例，曾展於《華麗彩瓷：乾隆洋彩》，台北，2008年，圖版76。
