well potted with a wide cylindrical body rising from a short spreading foot to a tall slender waisted neck with a flared rim, the neck flanked by a pair of archaistic iron-red and gilt C- shaped handles, the body finely enamelled with a continuous scene of the Eighteen Luohan within a rocky landscape, the neck and foot similarly decorated with leafy lotus strapwork reserved on a lime green feather scroll ground, the neck further collared by a bat and cloud salmon pink band below the mouth, the interior glazed in turquoise

Condition

This rare and finely enamelled vase has restoration to the upper section of the neck (approximately half the way up the top green band) of which about two-thirds of the circumference has been broken into four pieces with two circa (one approx. 1.5cm. wide, the other approx. 3 cm) triangular sections of loss, the base is missing and there are some glaze scratches.

此瓶繪通景十八羅漢圖,神態動作各異,山水景緻和諧,極為珍罕,展現藝匠畫功,且全畫早有腹稿,拉坯之前早已了然於胸,更見其造詣不凡。本瓶疑似孤品,並無相近作例記載,然而可比較一瓶,繪山水紋飾,出自Isaac D. Fletcher伉儷珍藏,現存於紐約大都會博物館,載於Denise Patry Leidy,《How to Read Chinese Ceramics》,紐約,2015年,圖版39。器形紋飾之中個別元素屬於流行典型,而瓷匠揉合各種風格,翻陳出新,更見乾隆年間藝匠臻藝。 唐英,雍正與乾隆早年期間任景德鎮御窰督陶官,工藝超卓, 從本瓶山水背景可見其風范。唐英善畫,或由其本人直接畫於器身、或由畫師按其水墨畫作繪於瓷器之上,現仍有帶唐英款之乾隆早期珍品傳世。本品所畫山水風景,更加入各式人物,而按瓶身繪通景風景人物紋飾、上下加飾粉彩綠地所示,本品應屬乾隆年間,瓷器紋飾設計較後期之典型。頸足之綠地粉彩花卉紋,設色紋樣類近洋彩瓷,後者或取材自織錦圖案。

本品器形與紋飾均華麗繁縟,帶乾隆年款,僅一對瓶例可比,繪山水及亭臺樓閣紋飾,風景上下圍飾粉紅地錦上添花,出自戴潤齋收藏,售於香港蘇富比2010年10月7日,編號2130。

相類之乾隆年製瓷瓶,也多見中央繪人物圖者,器形多樣。如一對胭脂紅地例,台北鴻禧美術館收藏,載於James Spencer,《中國歷代陶瓷選集》,鴻禧美術館,台北,1990 年,圖版168;台北國立故宮博物院收藏一例,載於《故宮清瓷圖錄.乾隆窰及其他》,東京,1981年,圖版36;北京故宮博物院亦收藏兩例,分別為胭脂紅地及松石綠地,載於《故宮博物院藏文物珍品全集.琺瑯彩.粉彩》,香港,1999年,圖版128,以及《故宮珍藏康雍乾瓷器圖錄》,前述出處,頁353,圖版34。再比一例,乾隆年製,中央繪人物圖,上下飾胭脂紅地,售於香港佳士得1995年10月29/30日,編號756,後易手於紐約蘇富比2009年3月17日,編號123,出自Gordon Getty收藏;另一例,粉彩粉紅地番蓮紋八仙過海燈籠瓶,出自Leon Bartholin收藏,售於香港蘇富比2016年4月6日,編號3611。

羅漢,釋迦牟尼佛之弟子,雖已得道,仍不入涅槃,住於世間護持佛道,直至彌勒佛到臨。眾羅漢斷盡三界見、思之惑,證得盡智。而十八羅漢則分別為因揭陀、阿氏多、伐那婆斯、迦理迦、伐闍羅弗多羅、跋陀羅、迦諾迦伐蹉、迦諾迦跋釐墮闍 、諾矩羅、注荼半託迦 、賓度羅跋囉惰闍、半託迦、那伽犀那、戌博迦、阿秘特及達摩多羅。
