Chronicle of a six-week hunt for sheep, bear, moose, caribou, etc., in Telegraph Creek, British Columbia, by a thorough and enthusiastic diarist. "An eventful day!" Bullock writes. "Clear and fine. Had just come out for breakfast when Billy announced that he had spotted what he thought to be sheep at least three miles up the mountain...Well, Mr. Sheep was still near the original spot, feeding, and finally laying down for a midday nap...Mr. Sheep looked up and I was just levelling my .33 with the intention of dropping him in his tracks, when he suddenly whirled about and bolted. Three or four leaps would put him out of sight and danger for good, behind a bluff. I held under his throat as he ran and pulled. My heart jumped as he collapsed with both front legs mowed from beneath him" (p. 13). The following album leaves display a series of photos that strikingly depict the rugged landscape Bullock and his comrade Billy had to traverse in order to reach the ram, and also images of the men kneeling beside "Mr. Sheep". In addition to such hunting anecdotes, the narrative also offers more intimate and amusing glimpses into camp life, with much attention paid to the quality of the various meals the men consumed.
